Gustafi ao vivo no StudioSP/ live at Studio SP

Eu tinha certeza de que o show do Gustafi (ver post sobre eles) seria energético, dançante, animado. E isso é fácil perceber. Basta assistir aos clipes da banda e, tudo isso lá está, em toda sua plenitude.

A minha dúvida, ao chegar no Studio SP, foi se a banda manteria a mesma dinâmica que eu esperava, com um público, digamos “mirrado”. Afinal, havia cerca de 30 pessoas para este show.

Como diz o nosso grande mestre, “Keep Wlaking”. E  foi o que os integrantes do Gustafi fizeram. Subiram no palco e com muito talento, simpatia e energia colocaram todo o público para dançar. E, o mais legal, é o que público respondeu à altura, deixando o clima mais que animado.

A banda, originalmente, conta com 9 integrantes. Para cá, vieram 7: a bela Barbara Munjas (vocal), o enigmático Cedomir Mosnjas (bateria), os poucos expressivos Vlado Maruzin (guitarra) e Dino Kalcic (baixo), o discreto Edin Pecman (acordeão e teclados), o animado Edi Maruzin (vocal e guitarra) e o simpático Romano Hantih (tuba).

O show teve duração de quase duas horas e a platéia esteve presente, de corpo e alma, durante todo o tempo, mesmo sem entender uma só palavra das canções, eu presumo, afinal, o idioma “oficial” da noite era o Croata.

Gustafi reforçou o conceito de que a música é um idioma universal. A letra faz parte e é importante, mas existem outros códigos de comunicação nas canções, os quais possuem significados amplos, envolventes e cativantes. Ainda mais se forem transmitidos com vibração e alegria.

Os significados sonoros das canções do Gustafi foram muito bem assimilados…e deve ter gente dançando até agora.

I was pretty sure Gustafi show would be an energetic, dancing and funny one. It´s not that diffcult to notice that at all. We only have to take a look at their videos and everything is there!

Nevertheless, I was wondering if the band would keep their vibe on the stage of Studio SP, considering the discreet audience of about 30 people.

As the “master” says:  “Keep walking”. And that was exactly what Gustafi did. Full of energy, empathy and talent they made the whole audience dance all night long.

Originally the band is formed by 9 members, however only 7 came to Brazil: the gorgeous Barbara Munjas (vocals), the enigmatic Cedomir Mosnjas (drums), the not so expressive ones Vlado Maruzin (guitar) and Dino Kalcic (bass), the discreet Edin Pecman (keyboars and accordion), the lively Edi Maruzin (vocals and guitar) and the sympathetic Romano Hantih (tuba).

It was an almost 2 hours gig and the audience was there with body and soul, although not understanding a word of the lyrics, I assume, as the “official” language of the night was Croatian.

Gustafi emphasised the concept that music is an universal language by itself and lyrics is part of each, an important one, but there are other elements, other codes of communication in it which present wide, involving and captivating meanings.

The meaning of Gustafi´songs was rather assimilated… and some people may be dancing until today.

Santos – São Vicente – part 2

Continuando com a visita a Santos e São Vicente, aqui vou apresentar as fotos tiradas no centro histórico de Santos e algumas da cidade de São Vicente.

O tour começou pelo Museu do Café, montado na sede da Bolsa Oficial do Café, prédio inaugurado em 7 de setembro de 1922, como parte dos festejos do centenário da Independência.

Era, naquela época, o centro organizador das operações comerciais cafeeiras do Brasil. Hoje, aberto ao público para visitação, é possível ver um pouco do requinte de sua arquitetura e decoração e um pouco da história dessa importante commodity.

This the second part of my visit to the cities of Santos and Sao Vicente. Here, I´ll post pictures from Santos city centre and some important touristic symbols of Sao Vicente.

The tour started by visiting the Museum of Coffee, established inside the building of “Bolsa Oficial do Café” (Official Coffee Exchange). The building was inaugurated in September 7, 1922 as part of the celebration of the 00th anniversary of Brazil Independence.

At that time, here it was the centre of all commercial activities regarding coffee in Brazil. Today, it is open to the public to see its architecture and decoration and part of the history of this important commodity.

From there, we walk through some lonely but nice streets of the city centre and through the beach (although the cloudy sky).

E terminamos em São Vicente, onde visitamos a Biquinha e o Marco Padrão da cidade.

A Biquinha de Anchieta existe desde 1553. Foi a fonte de água da cidade durante séculos e era o local onde Padre Anchieta catequizava os índios.

Já o Marco Padrão foi inaugurado em 1933 para comemorar os 400 anos da fundação da cidade.

And our tour finished in Sao Vicente, where we visited the “Biquinha” and “Marco Padrao”

Biquinha of Anchieta exists since 1553 and it was the source of water of the city for centuries. Here, Priest Anchieta teached the native indians at that time.

Marco Padrao was inaugurated in 1933 to celebrate the 400th anniversary of the city.

Zigmat ao vivo no Inferno! / Zigmat live at Inferno!

Eu fui ao Inferno e voltei….e foi bom!!!

O Inferno Club (R. Augusta, 501) foi o palco para apresentação da banda Novaiorquina Zigmat (vejam o post “Na onda do MTV LAB no www.thesoundsof.blogspot.com para saber mais sobre ela).

O local, alternativo, claro! A discotecagem, perfeita (para aqueles que apreciam um bom indie-pop-rock com estilo). O público, bonito e descolado, porém, morno!

É, morno. O Zigmat entrou no palco por volta das 2:30h da manhã, horário para ter casa cheia, afinal, a galera começou a chegar à meia-noite. Mas, para um show desse, a casa está vazia, infelizmente!

O ponto, entretanto, não foi a “quantidade”, mas a atitude da platéia. Mônica Rodriguez e seus músicos apresentaram seu repertório, e que repertório, com talento e buscando até um “envolvimento” com o público, o que não aconteceu.

Como sempre digo, nada como “ver ao vivo”, e nesse teste, o Zigmat passou com louvor. Só confirmou o que ouvi anteriormente. E reforço, você tem que ouvi-los!

Já o público, poderia ter respondido à altura do show!

Yes! I went to Inferno and returned from there… and I liked it!

Inferno Club (at 501 Augusta Street in Sao Paulo) was the club and the stage to the live show of Zigmat, a nice debut band from NY.

The venue, an alternative one, for sure! The dj´s soundtrack was perfect (for those who enjoy the nicest indie-pop-rock tracks. The audience was pretty and stylish, however needed a warm-up man.

In fact it was really necessary! Zigmat was at stage around 2:30h am. The place should be crowded at this time, considering the fact that people was arriving since midnight. But, it was not what happened. The place was “empty” for this great gig!

The fact that place is not crowded is not an issue. But, the attitude of the audience… that was!

Monica Rodriguez and her musicians presented a nice playlist with talent and they even tried some “dialogue” with those who were “watching” them, but it failed!

As I am used to saying, “do you want to really know a band? See it live"! And Zigmat got 10 in this performance, only confirming what I have already listened to before – nice songs, in fact!

On the other, the audience shoud have acted at the same level!

Feriado de 12 de Outubro / 12th of October Holiday – part 2

Agora, chegou a vez das fotos da festa e do desfile da Oktoberfest.

Eu tinha uma percepção de que a Oktoberfest era uma “muvuca”, até porque uma festa onde o objetivo declarado é beber, mas me enganei. A festa é muito bem organizada, e o melhor, sem confusões.

Fui em dois dias bem distintos. Na quinta-feira, um ambiente totalmente “família”, e foi quando tirei algumas fotos. Já no sábado, aí estava totalmente lotado. 120 mil pessoas e fila pra tudo, mas mesmo assim, valeu a pena. Até porque eu estava com um grupo de amigos muito divertido!

Quanto ao desfile, bem, é melhor ver as imagens!

Now, it´s time to present the pictures from the party itself and the parade.

That was my first time at Oktoberfest and my idea of it was a kind of “helter-skelter party”, considering the fact that the main objective of it is drinking beer. But I was completely wrong. The party is well organized and witouth any violence.

I visited Oktoberfest in two different days: thursday was a “family day” situation. It was not crowded and that´s when I took some pictures. However, on saturday, 120 thousand of people there and queue for everything. It was nice anyway!

And better than write about is seeing it!

Feriado de 12 de Outubro / 12th of October Holiday – part 1

Feriado do dia 12 de outubro e lá fui eu visitar um casal de amigos em Blumenau, Santa Catarina. E, já que estava por lá….por que não aproveitar e conhecer a Oktoberfest?

Para quem não sabe, a Oktoberfest acontece desde 1984, em Blumenau. A festa foi criada como uma forma de elevar o moral dos moradores da cidade e arrecadar verba para reconstrui-la depois de um devastadora enchente, ocorrida em 1983.

A festa, entretanto, se manteve e hoje chega a receber 120 mil pessoas em um só dia (informações cedidas pela Chuck Nora Lell..rs. “Ehhh Moiado!!!” rs).

Blumenau, assim como boa parte de Santa Catarina tem forte influência alemã e, claro, a bebida oficial é a cerveja (a qual deve ser de cervejarias locais, de preferência!).

Além da festa na Vila Germânica, pavilhão das festividades da Oktoberfest, há também um desfile no centro da cidade, com carros alegóricos, trajes típicos und das bier, natürlich!

Para facilitar a visita, vou “quebrar” o post em dois. Um, mostrando um pouco da Vila Germânica e arredores. O outro, a festa e o desfile.

(E aproveito para agradecer a hospitalidade de todos os Chuck Norris e Chuck Noras. A galera é realmente fantástica!).

12th of October is a national holiday in Brazil: Children´s Day, Our Lady´s day and OKTOBERFEST!!!

Brazilian Oktoberfest takes place in a city called Blumenau, in the state of Santa Catarina, south of Brazil.

Most of the population from this region has a Germany background, so Oktoberfest could not be in any other place!

The first edition happened in 1983 as a way to keep Blumenau´s people morale up and raise some money to rebuild the city after a tidal wave.

The party, nevertheless, was not a single year event. It´s been happening year after year as one of the most important event  in Brazil, receiving around 120 thousand people in a single day.

Due to the Germany background, beer is the only and the official drink in the city during Oktoberfest (which has to be prepared by the local breweries, preferably!).

The party happens in a specific area called “Vila Germânica” ( German Village), surrounded by constructions under German architecture style. But that´s not the only place used for attractions. On the streets of Blumenau city centre, an Oktoberfest Parade takes place and where the visitors can see special decorated cars and German style costumes.

In order to offer you the best way to see these pictures, I´ll split the post into two. The first will be about the “Vila Germânica” and surroundings. The second will be about the party and the parade.

Santos/São Vicente – Parte 1 – Fortaleza de Santo Amaro da Barra Grande

Se havia algo fora dos planos era descer para o litoral no fim de semana passado. Definitivamente, o mal tempo não aconselhava. Mas, quem disse que o litoral é só praia e sol?

Contrariando os indícios, lá fui eu para Santos e São Vicente, à convite da minha amiga Carol, para visitar o lado histórico das duas cidades.

Ela é de Santos, mas como mora atualmente muito longe de lá, deve andar esquecida da sua cidade e, por isso, o convite para visitar (no meu caso) e revisitar (no caso dela) alguns pontos turísticos-históricos.

Santos e São Vicente são duas das primeiras cidades brasileiras, em realidade, a vila de São Vicente é considerada a “cellula-mater” dos municípios do Brasil e, por isso a primeira cidade do país.

Decidi dividir em partes as fotos para facilitar a visualização, e o primeiro ponto a ser mostrado, é a Fortaleza de Santo Amaro da Barra Grande.

A Fortaleza foi construída em 1584, após um ataque de Piratas ingleses. Funcionou como tal até 1893 quando o último tiro foi disparado de seus canhões.

Em 1905, o Ministério da Guerra determinou o seu desarmamento e, a partir de então, a Fortaleza passou a ter diversas utilizações: Sede do Círculo Militar, Sociedade Amigos da Marinha, etc. Porém, a partir de década de 70, período do início da sua desocupação, se iniciou a fase de decadência e abandono.

Com o intuito de restaurar esse importante marco da região, a UniSantos iniciou o projeto de recuperação da Fortaleza, em 1991, deixando-a como a veremos a seguir.

The weather was grey, cloudy, drizzle. It was not even acceptable to go to the beach. But, who does need a sunny day to visit the seaside?

The answer is me! Against all the evidence, there I was to visit the historical sites of Santos and Sao Vicente towns with the company of a friend of mine called Carol, who was born in Santos, but as she´s been living so far away from there, I think she´s not remembering her own town very well. So, it was an opportunity to visit it (for me) and re-visit it (for her).

Santos and Sao Vicente are two of the first cities in Brasil. In fact, Sao Vicente Village (as it was known around 1500´s) is considered the first Brazilian town.

I decided to split the pictures into a few posts in order to make your visit easier. And the first historical site is The Fortress of Santo Amaro of  Barra Grande.

This Fortress was built in 1584, after the town has been attacked by some English pirates. It has been in use until 1893, when its cannons were deactivated.

In 1905, the Ministry of War determined the cannons should be removed from the Fortress and it has been used as Military Club until the 70´s. After this period, the Fortress has been left without any maintenance and this historical building came close to destruction.

In 1991, University of Santos developed a project to restore the Fortress and let it able to be visited again. This project was a success and here are the pictures of it.
